A Podcast for Parents. A Bigger Opportunity for the Brand.
A Kids Co. × Listening Party
Brand Strategy / Podcast Launch / Audience Development
-
Portland-based media and publishing company A Kids Co. built its reputation around making big, complicated conversations accessible to children.
But the adults raising those children had their own questions.
So we helped them launch a podcast called Raising Us, hosted by journalist TED Talk’s Daily host Elise Hu. Using this audio platform allowed the brand to speak directly to parents during their “free time”, in commutes. This project extended A Kids Co.’s editorial reach while staying true to the curiosity, honesty, and thoughtfulness at the heart of its brand.
The challenge was bigger than introducing another podcast.
How could a new show deepen the relationship between a brand and the families who already believed in it?
-
The strongest opportunity wasn't to position Raising Us as an isolated content launch. It was to create a flywheel foundation, connecting it to the wider A Kids Co. ecosystem and the consumer relationships already in place.
That meant thinking beyond downloads and launch attention. The launch strategy needed to make discovery easier while creating reasons for parents to keep coming back.
-
As the head of brand and growth at Listening Party, the team and I developed a launch and growth proposal organized around three priorities.
01 Make the positioning unmistakable.Connect the podcast’s editorial identity to A Kids Co.’s mission and give parents a clear reason to listen, without losing the values or voice that made the brand recognizable.
02 Build discovery into the content.
Develop a cross-platform distribution approach spanning podcast discovery, YouTube, short-form video, guest appearances, cross-promotion and searchable content. Each touchpoint was designed to serve a purpose: introduce the show, communicate its value to encourage listener retention.
03 Make the relationship last beyond an episode.
We created conversation prompts and companion resources that could carry the show’s ideas into the daily lives of families. Rather than treating every episode as a one-off release, we explored ways to turn listening into continuing engagement and educational opportunities for both parents and kids.
-
Raising Us launched as a parenting-focused addition to A Kids Co.’s editorial offering. It secured a sales partnership with kids’ couch brand Nugget and hit the top 5 parenting podcasts for months straight.
-
The best content strategies don't just build an audience for a new project. They create more reasons for people to connect with the brand behind it.

A resident perk became a reason to partner.
DogCentric Society
Audience Growth Strategy / Partnership Marketing /
Creative & Conversion Strategy
-
Austin-based daycare and boarding company DogCentric Society needed to become easier for nearby dog owners to discover—and easier for prospective clients to take the next step with. The brief connected two challenges: local visibility and the experience someone encountered after finding the business.
Our approach was to look beyond another social post. Where were these dog owners already receiving information, and what would make DogCentric useful enough to include?
-
We built the apartment-community pitch around a practical resident benefit: complimentary dog pickup and drop-off with booked daycare or boarding, including complimentary baths for stays over two nights.
Rather than simply asking a property manager to promote a business, the offer gave them something relevant to share. It connected a convenience for residents with a marketing opportunity for DogCentric.
The creative decision was in the exchange itself: make the service easier to access, and give the partner a reason to introduce it.
-
We researched nearby communities, developed property-specific outreach and created flyers and postcards with QR codes for attribution, prepared for distribution within a 5-mile radius. The materials connected a physical introduction with a digital next step rather than leaving print as a disconnected awareness tactic.
A QR scan was only the beginning of the customer journey. We also audited the website for SEO opportunities and mobile friction. Recommendations included clearer daycare and boarding navigation, consistent “Get Started” calls to action, a shorter inquiry form, more useful service information and a more coherent presentation across the website and social profiles.
To make the work actionable, we developed prioritized copy and implementation recommendations, established historical customer benchmarks, and set up a framework for logging inquiry sources. The measurement approach connected marketing activity with inquiries, evaluations, paying clients and repeat business.
-
Four large community apartment complexes agreed to include DogCentric in their marketing in exchange for the complimentary pickup-and-drop-off offer.
Alongside those approvals, the project delivered neighborhood promotional materials and a practical roadmap for improving discovery, mobile usability, and inquiry conversion. The immediate outcome was four approved routes into resident marketing, with the creative and measurement groundwork to support what came next.
-
The strongest idea was not another piece of content. It was a reason for the right communities to share the business, supported by creative, a clear next step and a way to learn from the response. That resulted in exposure to hundreds of concentrated dog parents within a 5-mile radius. That would provide real value for both the consumer and DogCentric Society.
